Wordlists

Wordlists for penetration testing and ethical hacking.

What is a word list :

A list or a database containing the all possible combination of Usernames or Passwords that can be used for cracking it.

There are also several wordlists which are already complied and ready available on the internet in form of databases. This page will cover all of my wordlist homework which i personally did myself for various occasions. I will be providing download links with some brief description of each type of word list that i have available with me.

Remember, wordslist is the easiest mean and common way of figuring out the password from the obtained hash. It may be effective at the same time we have to be consider the geographical and language barriers. People from different geolocation is having a tendency to put their own native stuffs into password which are very hard to crack.

Wordlist & Bruteforcing – Whats the difference?

Wordlist is a list of specific words that need to be checked against a Hash, where the brute-forcing will be using the technique of checking all possible combination of alphanumeric and special characters against the length of the password.

How to create a wordlist ?

Word-list can be created using different methods and techniques. One of my favorite way of creating word list is using word-list generator tools which are available openly in the internet, specially in git hub.

wordlist generators are tools that can be used for creating wordlist based on few inputs. There are many word list generators available, Some examples of offline word-list generators are here:

PYPI : https://pypi.org/project/wordlist/

CRUNCH : https://www.darknet.org.uk/2010/11/crunch-password-cracking-wordlist-generator/

L517 for windows :

The other method for generating useful word list are by ripping a common website. This is very useful in the case where the password are assumed to be either from a different language or potential of being based on the geo-location of the user. In this case you can depend upon a web-crawler to rip all the words from specific website and its contents. Very effective if the users are basically into certain geo-location and linguistic characteristic.

Here you need CeWL : https://digi.ninja/projects/cewl.php

There are many words lists which are readly available online in different forums as well. Kali linux is by default coming with few set of very popular word lists.

Here i will try to compile and upload some of the wordlists which i have been using during my studies.

If you find some thing very useful please comment , i will try to update the information and keep it updated.
